This is a bit more personal than what I usually share.

When I started my career as a mortgage broker, I was already a mom to a school-aged daughter. One of the things that drew me to this work was the chance to build a business of my own and have more flexibility to be present for the moments that mattered in her life.

As the years went by, my business grew into something I was proud of and deeply loved. Then, in 2024, my son came along. I was so happy to welcome him, but I also worried about what maternity leave would mean for the business I had worked so hard to build. I wondered how I would manage both, and whether I could step away without losing the momentum I had created.

I’m incredibly grateful to the clients and referral partners who continued to support my business while I was away. I’m especially thankful to my dear friend and fellow broker, who helped keep things moving during that important time. I was able to focus on my family knowing that the people who trusted me were still being looked after.

Coming back to work hasn’t always been easy. Some days have meant a long night with a little one, followed by a full day in a fast-paced, demanding industry. I’ve had to find my footing again, adjust to a new routine, and give myself time to feel settled in both parts of my life.

Motherhood hasn’t made me a different kind of mortgage broker, but it has given me a deeper understanding of what many clients are carrying alongside the decisions in front of them. A home purchase, a renewal, a refinance, or a change in family circumstances can bring excitement and possibility, but also a lot of pressure. People are managing careers, children, relationships, and unexpected changes while trying to make important financial choices.

I know how much it can take to keep showing up for the work you care about while being present for the people you love. I don’t assume I know exactly what someone else’s experience feels like, but I do understand that life doesn’t pause while a mortgage application is underway.

As a mortgage broker in Newfoundland and Labrador, I want my clients to feel that they can bring their real lives into the conversation. My job is to help them understand their options and find a path that works for where they are now.

I’m still learning how to balance motherhood and business. Some days are smoother than others. But I’m grateful for the career I’ve built, the people who have supported me, and the perspective this season of life has given me.
